My project “Rzygacze” (Gargoyles) is a children's comic book about the relationship between urban space and human wellbeing. It was inspired by a distinctive Gdansk architectural element — rzygacze (gargoyles), decorative figures of dragons and other creatures on drainpipes which, unlike in other Gothic cities, are located at eye level. The starting point of the project was an attempt to think in reverse perspective: I tried to imagine how gargoyles see us, people. It explores the themes of inclusive city environments, forced migration, adaptation and belonging.
“Rzygacze” received The Gdansk Cultural Scholarship in 2023.
It's a very important personal project for me and I continue to work on it.
